🌙 Barovia & the Day/Night Cycle

Barovia's roads, farms and ruins change character as light fades. The day/night cycle supports the domain's atmosphere and can affect which threats or events feel most prominent, but current quest markers remain the best guide to eligible objectives.

Village of Barovia

Use the settlement as a contact and turn-in center before pushing into the surrounding roads.

The Old Roads

Travel routes wind around terrain, estates and hostile patrols; the compass may point across an impassable line.

Nightfall

Visibility and enemy pressure can feel different after dark. Keep the route and objective in view.

Estates & Ruins

Several objectives sit inside or behind structures. Look for the actual entrance rather than moving directly toward the marker.

Castle Ravenloft

The looming castle is both a story landmark and a queued dungeon destination; reaching its exterior is not the same as entering the dungeon.

Mists

The Mists define the domain and its boundaries. Follow playable routes rather than trying to cross the zone edge.

🎴 Wanted Posters & Tarokka Hunts

Barovia hunts begin with Wanted Posters and can be modified with Tarokka Cards. The poster identifies the target; cards alter conditions and can affect the reward opportunity. Because the materials represent farming time, organize the group before consuming them.

StepActionProtect Your Time
1. Choose the TargetIdentify the Wanted Poster tied to the desired enemy or reward.Verify the current source before farming or buying the poster.
2. Gather CardsObtain eligible Tarokka Cards from current sources.Read the exact card effect and binding.
3. Build the HuntSelect the poster and any intended modifiers.State ownership, cards and loot goal to the party.
4. Travel to the SiteUse the correct Barovia location for the chosen target.Have every participant present before activation.
5. Complete and ConfirmDefeat the target and inspect the results.Check the live drop and avoid repeating the wrong combination.

Poster Is the Key

A general Barovia route cannot summon every hunt; the correct poster controls the target.

Cards Are Modifiers

Tarokka Cards are part of the hunt setup, not just collectibles. Use the combination required by the current goal.

Agree on Loot

Clarify expectations before a player spends a poster or valuable card.

🏰 Castle Ravenloft Dungeon

Castle Ravenloft is a five-player dungeon that turns the campaign's gothic setting into a coordinated assault through Strahd's domain. Its memorable mechanics reward arena awareness, controlled movement and group timing.

PreparationInside the CastleCompletion Check
Select the live queue and verify current access.Follow the group through branching rooms and do not trigger distant encounters alone.Confirm boss and chest sources for the desired reward.
Bring role-appropriate survival and consumables.Respect forced movement, dangerous zones and mechanic targets.Review deaths before immediately repeating the same strategy.
Tell the group if this is a learning run.Resolve encounter mechanics before returning to damage.Use rerolls only after checking the live pool.

Tank

Control boss orientation and movement so the group retains safe positions.

Healer

Plan burst recovery for scripted pressure and preserve resources through transitions.

Damage

Handle adds and objects when called; Strahd is not always the only meaningful target.

🛡️ Vistani Gear & Reward Sources

Ravenloft introduced Vistani-themed gear, weapons, artifacts and hunt rewards. Some pieces became famous in older builds, but current usefulness and availability must be checked item by item.

Vistani Set History

Older guides may recommend Vistani pieces for effects that have since been retuned. Read the live tooltip.

Preserve Unique Items

Check collection, transmute and exchange value before discarding an old campaign item.

Farm the Exact Source

A hunt item usually needs the correct poster and modifier—not any Barovia hunt.

🦇 Strahd, Madam Eva & the Mists

Ravenloft's campaign is most coherent when its gold quests are completed in order. The module builds tension through Strahd's attention, Madam Eva's readings and the trapped lives of Barovia's people.

Count Strahd

The vampire lord controls the domain and treats the adventurer's arrival as both threat and entertainment.

Madam Eva

Her Tarokka readings connect the campaign's choices, mysteries and means of confronting Strahd.

The Vistani

Travelers with a complicated position inside the domain; their culture and contacts shape the campaign's route.

A Closed Domain

Barovia is more than a distant country—the Mists enforce isolation and Strahd's power.

Gothic Horror

The story emphasizes dread, temptation and trapped communities rather than a simple military invasion.

Castle Finale

The dungeon carries the campaign into Strahd's own seat of power.

🕰️ Using Ravenloft Guides Today

Ravenloft remains recognizable, but years of combat, queue and reward changes can make a mechanically accurate 2018 guide misleading for a current character.
