Key Bindings & Commands

Neverwinter allows PC players to customize normal hotkeys and create advanced slash-command key bindings. These can make commonly used actions easier to access, save different keybind profiles and even simplify Bard song inputs.

Advanced Slash-Command Binds Are for PC Console players can customize available controller settings, but the slash-command keybind examples on this page are intended for the PC version of Neverwinter.

Changing Normal Key Bindings

You do not need slash commands for normal control changes. Neverwinter includes a Keybinds menu where standard movement, powers, targeting and interface controls can be reassigned.

Press ESC.
Open Options.
Open the section containing Keybinds.
Select the action you want to change.
Press the new key you want assigned.
Apply or save the changes before closing the Options window.

Common Default PC Controls

Key Default Action
W Move Forward
S Move Backward
A Move Left
D Move Right
Space Jump
Shift Class Utility Power
T Auto-Run
C Character Sheet
I Inventory
Alt Toggle Cursor Mode
Remember: These are defaults. If you have already customized your controls, your current keys may be different.

Basic /bind Command

The basic format is:

/bind KEY "COMMAND"

Replace KEY with the keyboard key you want to use and replace COMMAND with the command that should run when that key is pressed.

Commands are normally entered through the chat box.

Example: The following would bind F1 to open the inventory.
/bind F1 "Inventory"

Removing a Custom Bind

If you no longer want a command assigned to a key, use:

/unbind KEY

Example:

/unbind F1

Combining Commands

Neverwinter can place multiple actions into one bind by separating commands with:

$$

This is useful for certain convenience binds and Bard songs.

Test Complicated Binds Carefully Commands can change or stop functioning after game updates. Test a new bind somewhere safe before relying on it during a dungeon or trial.

Saving & Loading Keybind Files

PC players can save their custom keybinds to a file and load them again later.

Save Current Binds

/bind_save_file mybinds.txt

Saves the current character keybind setup to a named file.

Load Saved Binds

/bind_load_file mybinds.txt

Loads the keybinds stored in that file.

Why this is useful: Bard players or characters with very different loadouts can keep separate bind files and load the one appropriate for the setup they are using.

Useful PC Commands

Show FPS

/showfps 1

Displays the current frame rate.

/showfps 0

Turns the FPS display off.

Network Information

/netgraph 1

Displays network information such as latency and bandwidth.

/netgraph 0

Hides it again.

Hide the Game UI

/ShowGameUI 0

Hides most of the interface for screenshots or video.

/ShowGameUI 1

Restores the interface.

Combat Log

/CombatLog 1

Starts writing combat information to the Neverwinter combat log.

/CombatLog 0

Stops combat logging.

Follow Target

/follow

Makes your character follow the currently selected target. Normal player movement cancels following.

Target by Name

/target "Player Name"

Attempts to target the named character or entity.

Useful Bind Examples

Follow on a Key

/bind Z "follow"

Pressing Z follows your current target. Change Z to any key you prefer.

Toggle Target Lock

/bind Mouse4 "++HardTargetLock"

Community players use this as a toggle-style hard target lock. Mouse4 can be replaced with another key or supported mouse button.

Open Inventory

/bind F1 "Inventory"

Assigns the Inventory command to F1.

Inventory & Belt Item Binds

PC players can bind some inventory or tray-item actions directly to keys.

Use the First Belt / Potion Slot

/bind F1 "+InventoryExec Potions 0"

The final number identifies the slot, beginning with 0 for the first position.

Be careful with inventory binds. Moving items or changing tray positions can change what a bind activates. Test the key after reorganizing your inventory or belt.

Bard Song Keybinds

Bard players on PC can bind complete song note sequences to keys using PowerMusicNoteExec. This can be especially useful for frequently played Minstrel and Songblade songs.

Current Bard Song Bind Examples

The key immediately after /bind can be changed to whatever key you want to use.

Bard players with different Songblade and Minstrel setups can save separate keybind files.

Save DPS Binds

/bind_save_file bard-dps.txt

Commands That May Stop Working

Neverwinter's command system has changed over the years. Old forum posts, Discord messages and archived guides may contain binds that no longer work.

This is particularly important with older VIP summon commands and some power-targeting binds. If a command in an old guide does nothing, it may have been disabled or changed by a later game update.

Why some old Discord binds are not listed here: We are keeping this Knowledge Hub focused on commands that are still useful in the current live game instead of preserving every legacy command simply because it once worked.

Keybind Safety & Troubleshooting

Test one bind at a time. If something goes wrong, you will know which command caused it.
Do not overwrite an important key accidentally. Check your normal control settings before assigning a new bind.
Use /unbind when needed. Remove a custom bind before rebuilding it if the key is behaving unexpectedly.
Save working setups. Once a complicated set of binds works correctly, save it to a bind file.
Remember that updates can break old commands. Re-test important binds after major modules or system changes.
Keep a normal control available. Do not make your character dependent on a complicated bind that you cannot quickly replace during group content.

Use Keybinds to Simplify — Not Complicate

Keybinds are most useful when they reduce repetitive actions or make frequently used controls easier to reach. Start with a few commands that solve an actual problem, save the setup once it works and add more only when you need them.
